In the Outer Hebrides Local Plan District approximately 440 residential properties and 160 non-residential properties have been identified as at risk of flooding. This equates to approximately 1 in 33 of all residential properties and 1 in 13 of all non-residential properties in the Local Plan District. The largest potential source of flood risk is coastal which accounts for over half of potential flood risk.

For the purposes of Flood Risk Management Planning, Scotland has been divided into 14 Local Plan Districts (LPDs) and in each of these a LPD Partnerships has been established. The partnership will be the main driver for the production and implementation of the Local Flood Risk Management Plan.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the Lead Local Authority, Scottish Water and SEPA form the Outer Hebrides LPD Partnership and the Comhairle has responsibility under the legislation to produce a Local Flood Risk Management Plan of co-ordinated actions to reduce flood risk within the Outer Hebrides.
