New approach to flood management PDF Print E-mail

A new risk-based approach takes account of flooding from all sources, i.e. river, the sea and surface water, together with the potential impact of flooding on human health, economic activity, the environment and cultural heritage. Areas have been identified where the potential impact is sufficient to justify further assessment and appraisal of flood risk management actions. These are referred to as Potentially Vulnerable Areas (PVAs).

Flood Risk Management Strategies prepared by SEPA will set objectives for reducing flood risk and identify the best combination of actions to achieve this. Local Flood Risk Management Plans, produced by the lead local authority for each Local Plan District, will take the objectives and actions and set out what actions will be taken and how they will be implemented and funded over a 6-year cycle.
